I truly believe that being serene about motherhood when you are pregnant is crucial to having a great start in the next stage of your life once your baby is born (you may even feel like a mother already).
I also truly believe that being serene about motherhood when you have a baby or two (or more!), a toddler or a child or all of the above is crucial to a) your sanity as a mum and as a person in your own right (without the labels, but also with the extra labels of wife, sister, daughter, colleague, friend, etc.) and b) to your children’s well-being.
One of the hardest things I have ever had to accept is that when a mother is well and happy, so are her children, and when she is unhappy or unwell, so are her children. Not necessarily unhappy in the sense of ‘depressed’ or anything dramatic – just when she feels negative or angry with the world, she can see her own reflection in her children’s behaviour and words. And as soon as she is positive and happy with and in her life, this is also reflected back to her. And not just her children – her husband or partner too.
Sometimes it feels like such a responsibility and we don’t want it. But there it is. The big truth about motherhood and the energy that we as mothers exude, whether positive or negative.
I have learned this the hard way, but I have had tools to help me for the last few years, thankfully.
And I make it my mission to share them with everyone who wants them or is curious about them.
I hold Serene Motherhood for Bumps group sessions on Thursday evenings, 7-8.30pm, in my garden studio in Wallingford so that you can learn these tools with like-minded pregnant women and forge meaningful relationships with them. Find out more here.
I also teach these tools one-to-one in Serene Motherhood for Mums private sessions. Find out more here. (I would love to also hold group sessions but there are not enough hours in the week at present with two little girls of my own!)
