I hadn’t heard of hypnobirthing before I was pregnant, but had always felt like birth was a natural thing not to be scared of. However, you hear the ‘horror’ stories that so many women tell you and they can’t help but stay with you in your subconscious. A friend of mine mentioned her friend was practising hypnobirthing and after doing some research, the thought of it really resonated with me. Scott was a little sceptical at first, but was supportive in my decision. At first I wasn’t sure whether we should be doing the NCT classes instead (we couldn’t afford both) but I’m so glad we chose Sam’s hypnobirthing course. I’ve met lots of other mums-to-be through other groups and didn’t want to be overwhelmed by the medical side that I thought NCT may deliver as this went against my instincts.
We’ve just finished the course and our baby is due in the next couple of weeks, so everything is really fresh in our minds. We loved working with Sam 1:1 as we could raise all the questions and concerns that were specific to us and she helped us through them. She has such a relaxing tone and the use of the repetitive music and breathing meant that by the third session, I was able to get into deep relaxation within a few minutes. There are lots of tracks, which Sam sends to you and are now downloaded onto my birthing album, and the Wise Hippo workbook gives you some good, clear jargon-free reading.
Scott is now completely in tune with the process too and we are both actually looking forward to labour, feeling equipped to deal calmly with all eventualities as a team.
